B i o g r a p h y

A native of Taiwan, Ms. Connie Tu has always had a love for music. She started her musical journey at age 7, where she was introduced with the electone, performing for recitals and participating in competitions in Taiwan. At the age of 16, she switched her focus to piano and has been playing ever since. In addition to piano, she has also been studying her second instrument, violin. 

 

Some of her recent performances include solo works in the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) Romantic/Impressionism Theme Festival where she was awarded silver medal in December of 2016. She was also the first place recipient of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) Sonata Festival in 2015, and the 4th place recipient for the MTAC Concerto Competition in June of 2016.  Additionally, Ms. Tu continually performs in showcase recitals at the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music at Chapman University.  She has studied with Dr. Janice Park, Mrs. Irina Piliposyan,  Mrs. Esya Ronshanova, and Mrs. Vivian Fan. 

 

Aside from her solo performances, she has also appeared as a collaborative pianist in multiple chamber settings with string quartets, woodwind trios and brass quintets. Her recent appearances include chamber music concerts at both Mt. San Antonio College and Chapman University. Her ensemble experiences include playing with the Mt. SAC Orchestra, Chapman University Wind Symphony, and The Chapman Orchestra where she was featured in the school’s annual Wassail concerts. The concerts were broadcasted on KCET television nationwide. She is also a member of Chapman University’s Early Music Ensemble performing as a baroque violinist.

Ms. Tu has participated in a number of Master Classes. She has worked with renowned pianists such as Vicki Ray, Jeffrey Siegel, Karen Follingstad, Jacqueline Petitto, Kirill Gliadkovsky, Eugene Alcalay, Kevin Fitz-Gerlard and Antoinette Perry . During the summer of 2016, she was accepted and played for esteemed professors and artists in Semper International Music Festival in Italy. Such artists include Dr. Grace Fong and Karen Follingstad.  

 

Ms. Tu also has a passion for teaching music. Her past teaching experiences include giving piano group lessons to kids age 3 through 7 in a studio setting. She has experience teaching at St. John's Lutheran Conservatory of Music and Anaheim Elementary School District as piano instructor and string instructor.  Ms. Tu has been giving one-on-one piano lessons privately in the Los Angeles and Orange County area since 2012 and is currently employed at Cadenza Music Academy as piano instructor. 

 

Ms. Tu obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Chapman University and is currently studying at UC Irvine, pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching and a music teaching credential.
